“…Jerusalem is the city of the Great King.” Matthew 5 v 35
This year we have the privilege again of taking a tour to Israel in which we will get to visit Jerusalem the city of The GREAT KING!!
As a ministry, we have such a love for the nation of Israel and the Jewish people and have stood with them for over 30yrs. We understand and teach the Jewish roots of Christianity and of God’s promises to gather the Jewish people back in their homeland in these last days.
There is so much that we could write about Jerusalem as it is central to all of God’s prophetic plans and purposes. We see throughout the whole of scripture (beginning in Genesis and ending in Revelation) patterns, types and foreshadows around Jerusalem and God’s dealings with His people – the Jews.
If we look at the current geo-political and spiritual situation of the Middle East conflict, it is safe to say the prophecy of Zechariah Chapter 12 was written approximately 2500 years ago predicting a future day when the world’s focus would be on Jerusalem is upon us.
“Jerusalem is a cup of trembling for all the nations… Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples; all who lift it will be severely injured” Zechariah 12 v 2/ 3
However, for us as believer’s Jerusalem is the place where Christ our Passover Lamb was sacrificed.
Jerusalem is the city where many believe Abraham brought Isaac up Mt. Moriah and passed God’s test of faith. It was here that Abraham said “"God will provide for Himself the lamb..” Genesis 22 v 8
God certainly did provide a LAMB… “Behold, The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world” John 1 v 29.
At the time of Passover, Christ ascended to Jerusalem to be our Passover Lamb. He was “like a lamb led to the slaughter” Isaiah 53 v 7.
Jerusalem in the place that “Immanuel”, The Lamb of God, The Word that became flesh died to atone for the sins of mankind.
Christ died most appropriately in Jerusalem. Jerusalem was God’s chosen place for the offering of sacrifices to Himself: all of the previous temple sacrifices where a type / foreshadowed to Christ’s ultimate sacrifice.
For the Jewish people, there was only one place to offer sacrifices to the Lord: Jerusalem. Although towns had synagogues, only Jerusalem had the Temple, and one had to go there to offer sacrifices to the Lord.
Christ died as atonement for the whole world (1 John 2 v 2). This is why He suffered in the centre of the habitable world–that is, in Jerusalem.
“But God is our King before ages: He hath wrought salvation in the midst of the earth” Psalm 73 v 12. This is speaking of Jerusalem, which is called “the navel of the earth.”
A glimpse at a map shows that Jerusalem is arguably at the very intersection of three continents: Europe, Asia, and Africa.
In October, we will again visit the city where our Passover Lamb offered Himself freely up as the ultimate sacrifice, atoning for the sin of the whole world.
We will also see in this city the place of His burial and resurrection and look forward to HIS SOON RETURN to this “The City of The GREAT KING”!!!
Let us continue to pray for the Peace of Jerusalem - Psalm 122.
